Which types of eVibes are there?

There are currently 4 types of eVibe: the Lightning eVibe (1kN), the Synchro eVibe (2kN), the Storm eVibe (10 kN) and the new in development Hurricane eVibe (20kN).

Are all the eVibes for sale?

Are all your eVibes electric?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all our sources are battery powered. Still, all sources can be powered by generator or grid power.

What kind of carriers do you use?

Accepted Answer

We can use locally available (electric) carriers whenever possible. For the Lightning eVibe, we typically deploy (electric) ATVs or utility vehicles ("mules"). For the Synchro and Storm eVibe systems, we use small (electric) telehandlers, zoom booms, or tractors.

The carriers have a width of approximately 2 meters, making them highly suitable for operations in urban and other space-constrained environments.

How is it possible that you achieve a great depth of penetration with low force?

Accepted Answer

The eVibes use direct drive motors. Therefore, a "frictionless" movement is created to generate acoustic signals. In other words, no energy is lost when creating the acoustic signals.

A hydraulic valve/piston is designed around friction since its pumping oil from one chamber of the piston to the other under high pressures. This created viscous losses, wear and tear and is temperature dependent. Therefore, a lot of energy is wasted and high levels of harmonic distorion are created. This needs to be compensated with a lot of force.

We're working in a high-noise environment and normally rely on high-force vibrators to push through the noise. Why should we switch to eVibe, and how can you guarantee we still achieve our targets without increasing cost or survey duration?

EVibes can provide high quality results in noisy areas. We approach acquiring data in high noise environments by

1. Using the eVibe's precision, low noise signal input for
  a. Broader bandwidth sweep
  b. Lower frequencies at full force
  c. Greater repeatability

2. Increasing random noise cancellation with
  a. Longer sweeps
  b. Vibrate once at each source point increasing diversity of energy input
  c. Increased power of stack and migration to cancel random noise

3. Buried geophones

4. Vibrating at night

5. Increasing trace density

This approach has demonstrated positive signal to noise results in densely populated European cities where we have acquired seismic data.

We have been able to acquire these surveys without increasing cost or duration using high productivity acquisition techniques.

Question 7

How do you ensure high-frequency content, especially in soft near-surface conditions?

Accepted Answer

Many factors affect how much p-wave energy is transmitted into the subsurface

• Surface material under the baseplate
• Water content of material under the baseplate
• Size, shape and weight of the baseplate
• 'Captured earth mass'

As the diagram shows, less p-wave energy is generated on a soft surface

The eVibe is able to contribute high frequency content on soft near-surface conditions due to the:
· eVibe control system and
· the output characteristics of the eVibe

The eVibe's own integrated source controller enables

• Precise force & position control using RM/BP accelerometers + encoder.
• Automatic QC per sweep (force, phase, GPS, HDF metrics).
• Excellent pilot tracking → very low phase error & ultra-low THD.
• True broadband fidelity (1–80 Hz) with stable low-frequency output.
• Clean spectrograms → ideal for FWI, ML, time-lapse & modelling.

• Full flexibility in sweep design: linear, high/low dwell, pseudo-random, etc.

This gives us the ability to generate broad bandwidth, precise sweeps on any surface.

If you need longer sweeps or denser spacing, doesn't that make eVibe slower and more expensive than conventional acquisition?

Accepted Answer

eVibe acquisition is both affordable and highly productive. We can acquire data using high productivity vibroseis techniques such as ping-pong, slip sweep and DSS.

Faraday designs 2D and 3D surveys to optimize data quality for the objective while using highly cost effective eVibes and small efficient field crews deploying nodal recording technology.

We are able to provide affordable high-quality data through:

• Lower cost per Ultra High-Density VP due to fast setup, Low (de)mob), small team, and stable performance.
• Small crew size (typically 2–3 people) reduces labor cost and logistics overhead.
• Low fuel/energy cost: efficient battery-electric system, no large diesel consumption.
• Ultra-low maintenance: no pumps, hoses, valves, filters, accumulators, hydraulic tanks.
